Stephen Colbert points out that our friends at Newsweek gave the Apple iPad a nice, big, wet, free French kiss on its front cover… while a competitor’s device had to pay to get theirs on the back page:
“Newsweek liked it so much, they made it their first non-Obama cover in 15 months.  This is like a full-page cover ad that Apple didn’t have to pay for… unlike the Amazon Kindle on the back.”
Stephen then went on to mock the Kindle’s black-and-white screen… never mind that Apple gracefully (and shamefully) provided an (apparently) free iPad to his show.
Hopefully Newsweek’s Tumblr will talk about this.  For instance, I’d love to know what happened when their ad sales department told their editorial department about Kindle’s ad buy, and whether or not there was discussion about the free ad (for Apple) versus the paid ad.
