KV Pharmaceutical of St. Louis makes a drug, called Makena, that helps prevent premature births. It used to cost around $20 a dose, amounting to about $400 for a 20-week course. But then the FDA cleared it for nationwide use, and KV Pharmaceutical raised the cost of one dose... to $1,500. I wonder what goes through the heads of executives at companies like KV Pharmaceutical (NYSE: KV.A) when deciding whether to price many to most families out of an option that may save the life of a child.
