A former soldier with ties to a white supremacist group has been busted in a failed bombing at a Martin Luther King Day parade in Washington state, officials said.

Kevin William Harpham, 36, is accused of placing a sophisticated back-pack bomb - which was spotted and defused before it went off - along the parade route on Jan. 17.

Officials said the bomb, which contained shrapnel and a chemical component, could have been lethal if it went off.

"It was a viable device, it was planted with the aim of hurting or killing people," said U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

Sources said Harpham was a white supremacist and the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, said they had records of him being a member of the National Alliance.

The group was founded by William Pierce, author of the “Turner Diaries,” a novel about a future race war that is influential among white supremacist groups.

"Kevin Harpham, White Supremacist & Ex-Soldier, Busted for Failed Bombing at Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade," in the New York Daily News.

Good thing Congressmen like Peter King are busy demonizing members of a particular religious group instead of focusing on actual terrorists.
