If your fire department is almost 90 percent white in a city that isn’t 90 percent white then perhaps 200 of your white firefighters shouldn’t show up to a court hearing to complain about your department being ordered to hire more people who aren’t white.
“I feel I’m being discriminated against because I’m Caucasian,” says one of those white firefighters. Dude, get your head out of your turnout gear and look around you. Look at your brothers and sisters on the truck and in the firehouse. Do you really feel discriminated against, with all those white folks around you? No, you’re just being an idiot.
Just because your job entails saving lives doesn’t mean you get to ignore the institutional racism going on around you.
Get a clue.
